MMRDA to fast track development of Mumbai Metro Line 12
Commuters travelling from Kalyan to Taloja in Mumbai metropolitan region will soon be able to travel via Mumbai metro line 12. The proposed line 12 was given the cabinet's nod in 2019.
Reportedly, it will cost almost ₹4,132 crores, and the 20.7 kilometer corridor will connect Kalyan, Dombivali and Taloja, passing through 15 metro stations. The project has been put on the priority list and orders have been issued to speed up the development of the proposed line.
Speedy development of Mumbai Metro Line 12
The Mumbai Metro line 12 (Orange line) is the south extension of line 5, connecting Kalyan, Bhiwandi and Thane. The proposed corridor will offer a hassle-free commute option to and from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation (MMMOCL) is the operating partner, and will soon start the construction work. The 20.7 kilometer long metro corridor will have a total of 18 stations, namely, APMC Kalyan, Ganesh Nagar, Pisawali Gaon, Golvali, Dombivli MIDC, Sa Gaon, Sonar Pada, Manpada, Hadutane, Kole Gaon, Nilje Gaon, Wadavali, Bale, Vaklan, Turbhe, Pisawe Depot, Pisawe and Taloja.
Once the line is operational, it will be integrated with Mumbai Metro Line 5.
Soon to be India's largest metro network
Mumbai Metro is an urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) that is being developed to serve one of the largest cities in the country. The development of the Mumbai Metro has been entrusted to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The nodal agency in 2019, came up with a 337 kilometer long master plan for Maha Mumbai Metro’s network.
The proposed master plan consists of a total of 17 sections under 10 lines. Out of these 17 sections, 5 are under the proposed stage and the rest are either operational or under construction.
