Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor is rapidly taking shape, marking a significant milestone in the development of India’s first high-speed rail project. This brings the project closer to its anticipated opening in 2026. From Surat Station to the first concrete slab for Mumbai, seven tunnels in Palghar to the only mountain tunnel in Gujarat, here are the key milestones achieved in 2024.

Major infrastructure progress in 2024

  • Surat Bullet Train Station is rapidly taking shape and is set to be one of the first stations completed on this route.

  • First concrete base slab for Mumbai Bullet Train station has been successfully cast at a depth of 32 metres.

  • A 21 km tunnel linking Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Shilphata is under construction, with a 394-metre Intermediate Tunnel (ADIT) already completed.

  • Seven mountain tunnels in Palghar are underway using the advanced New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).

  • Construction of Reinforced Concrete (RC) Track Beds is underway in Anand, Vadodara, Surat, and Navsari, with 71 km of track completed.

  • The only mountain tunnel in Gujarat has been successfully finished.

  • The 12 stations on the corridor are being built with user-friendly features, thematic designs, and energy-efficient elements.

  • Over 243 km of viaducts have been completed, alongside 352 km of pier work and 362 km of pier foundations.

  • Construction of bridges across 13 rivers and multiple railway lines and highways, featuring five steel bridges and two Pre-Stressed Concrete (PSC) bridges completed.
