Mumbai Airport to be shut for 6 hours on May 8, affecting more than 200 flights | Here's why
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will suspend all flight operations for six hours on May 8, due to scheduled pre-monsoon runway maintenance, operator MIAL has confirmed. As per reports, both runways — 09/27 (primary) and 14/32 (secondary), will be shut from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting more than 200 flights. This temporary closure is part of an annual safety check ahead of the monsoon season.
Advance notice issued
A NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) was issued six months ago to allow airlines to adjust flight schedules and passengers to plan accordingly. The maintenance will include inspections for surface damage, wear and tear, and preventive measures to avoid waterlogging. CSMIA will also leverage advanced technology to monitor the entire maintenance process, ensuring timely execution within the designated six-hour window. These checks are essential to ensure safe aircraft operations during heavy rains.
