Mumbai braces for thunderstorms & moderate rains this week; here’s when monsoon may arrive
Mumbai residents can expect a mix of cloudy skies, moderate rain, and thunderstorms this week, offering some respite from the usual May heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures this week will hover between 26°C and 34°C, with moderate rainfall and thunderstorms expected on several days.
While only a few pockets of the city have experienced rain so far, the pre-monsoon showers are bringing much-needed respite from the stifling humidity.
Humid days, cloudy skies & thunderstorms ahead
Today, May 15, the maximum temperature is likely to reach 31°C, with a partly cloudy, humid day ahead. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for May 16 warning of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and scattered rainfall, particularly in the evening or night. Daytime highs may reach 34°C, while night-time temperatures could drop to 26°C.
Similar conditions are expected until May 20, with generally cloudy skies, light rain, and steady temperatures between 26°C and 34°C. The pre-monsoon showers have provided slight relief from the intense humidity, though mugginess persists. As the city inches closer to monsoon, expected between June 10–15, Mumbaikars can look forward to more cloud cover, scattered showers, and a break from the intense summer heat.
