The bow-string arch bridge, linking Marine Drive to Bandra-Worli Sea Link, is now finally complete. The entire coastal road is set to be inaugurated by Chief Minister on Sunday, the 26th of January. Public access to the route will begin the following day, on the 27th of January, with operational hours from 7 AM to 12 AM.
This new addition is expected to dramatically cut travel time between Marine Drive and Bandra, reducing the journey to just nine minutes!
Coastal Road Project’s new phase improves access across Mumbai
In addition, three interchanges providing connectivity to areas such as Worli, Prabhadevi, Lower Parel, and Lotus Junction will also be inaugurated.
The Mumbai Coastal Road Project, designed to improve connectivity across the city, is being developed in phases. It stretches from Nariman Point in South Mumbai to Dahisar in the northern suburbs. The first phase, inaugurated on the 12th of March last year, connected Nariman Point to Bandra. The latest stretch extends this link with the addition of two newly constructed bridges.
These bridges feature innovative bow arch string girders, a first in Mumbai’s infrastructure, and directly connect South Mumbai’s traffic flow to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Together, these developments promise smoother commutes and improved accessibility across key areas of Mumbai.
