Mumbai Metro 3: Phase 2 of Aqua Line 2A from BKC to Worli expected to launch by March 2025
Phase 2 of Mumbai Metro 3 Aqua Line connecting Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Worli is expected to open for public by March 2025. Reports mention that over 90% of work on this phase is complete with metro work pending at Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli and Girgaon.
According to officials from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), the exact launch date will depend on obtaining the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) certification.
Better connectivity with Phase 2
Phase 2 will cover six key stations of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 namely Dharavi, Shitladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk. These stations are situated in commercial and residential areas, offering direct access to educational institutions, corporate hubs, and religious landmarks.
Further, the third phase of the Aqua Line 2B, running between Acharya Atre Chowk and Cuffe Parade, is expected to be operational by July 2025.
Aqua Line's partial operation sees fewer than 20k daily passengers
Mumbai’s first underground metro corridor, launched in October 2024, has struggled with ridership. The 12.44 km stretch between Bandra Kurla Complex and Aarey Colony saw only 2.66 million passengers in four and a half months, averaging under 20,000 daily, far below the projected 400,000.
MMRC officials blame the low numbers on partial operations and expect an increase once the full 33.5 km route from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade opens by June 2025.
