These roads, often crowded with foot traffic, commuters, and hawkers, will receive upgrades such as dedicated pedestrian islands, improved lane markings, zebra crossings, and uniform street furniture like light poles and footpath railings.

The initiative, part of a pilot project for the G North Ward, aims to enhance connectivity between commercial hubs and residential areas. The work will take place over several months, with the goal of completion by June 2026, well before the monsoon season.

BMC’s decision follows a crackdown on illegal hawkers near Dadar railway station and seeks to improve the pedestrian experience in high-footfall areas. Vinayak Vispute, additional municipal commissioner, emphasised the project’s importance for better urban planning and the potential for future expansion based on the success of this pilot.
