Ganesh Chaturthi aka Ganeshotsav is a ten-day festival that is celebrated with much pomp and show, every year in Mumbai. This year, devotees of Lord Ganesh will begin the festivities on August 31, 2023.
Following the heavy rush of passengers during festive times, Central Railways (CR) and Western Railways (WR) have announced to jointly run 312 Ganpati Special Trains. This includes 257 Central Railway and 55 Western Railways Trains. When compared with 2022, this year, authorities are running 18 more trains.
According to officials at CR, approximately 1.04 lakh reserve passengers are expected to travel this season. This includes a notable surge in demand, of almost 14,000 Ganpati Special Train commuters. Moreover, an estimated 1.50 lakh unreserved passengers are expected to make use of special trains.

Who are reserve passengers you may ask? A passenger who buys train ticket over 120 days in advance, before his/her journey at a scheduled train. After the reserved ticket booking period is over, a preference is given to passengers in the waiting list and later, tatkal tickets.
