The Central Railway has temporarily stopped platform ticket sales to manage overcrowding during the summer vacation rush in Mumbai and nearby areas. The restriction applies to four major stations, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Kalyan, and Pune. The restriction will be in effect from April 18 to May 15.

After past stampedes, CR tightens platform entry

The announcement was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Mumbai, aiming to ease congestion and ensure the safety of passengers during the busy holiday season.

However, exemptions have been made for senior citizens, the ailing, children, and women who may need assistance; their accompanying persons will still be allowed to buy tickets.

Passengers advised to plan accordingly

This CR decision comes after past incidents of stampedes, including one at New Delhi Railway Station during the Maha Kumbh. Additionally, the Central Railway has also rolled out summer special trains and additional facilities to accommodate the holiday rush. Authorities hope the restriction will enhance safety and streamline operations. Passengers are advised to plan accordingly and cooperate for a hassle-free travel experience.
