Noise pollution and nuisance caused by racing cars and bikers on high-speed motorcycles are significant issues in Mumbai, particularly in South Mumbai and the Western Suburbs, according to recent complaints.

In response to these increasing complaints, the Mumbai Police initiated a drive to check on the menace. On the night of November 29, an operation in Bandra, Khar and Andheri resulted in action against 689 offenders under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Additionally, 40 cases were registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for reckless driving and 162 two-wheelers were seized. Most FIRs were filed by the Khar and Bandra Police in Bandra Reclamation and Kherwadi areas.

Peace disrupted near Mumbai’s new Coastal Road

Residents of Worli, Napean Sea Road, and Breach Candy, including those near the new coastal road, report frequent noise disturbances from fleets of racing vehicles with modified mufflers. This excessive noise disrupts the peace in residential areas and affects institutions like Breach Candy Hospital, located near the road.

Loud noise from modified mufflers is prohibited,” a complainant stated, urging authorities to take strict action against offenders to restore peace in these neighbourhoods.
