Mumbai Police has announced comprehensive restrictions ahead of Holi festivities to ensure public safety and prevent communal tensions during the colourful celebrations. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Akbar Pathan issued a preventive order that will remain in effect from March 12 to March 18, covering the entire Holi, Dhulivandan, and Rang Panchami festival period.

Respect the festival, follow the rules

The order strictly prohibits the use of obscene language, gestures, or songs in public, along with the display of offensive images, symbols, or placards. Additionally, spraying or throwing coloured water, dyes, or powders on pedestrians, as well as preparing or hurling water-filled balloons, is banned.

Mumbai Police highlighted that these restrictions address recurring issues from past Holi celebrations, ensuring public decorum and preventing potential disturbances. Any violations will be punishable under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.

The order will be enforced from March 12 at 12:01 AM until March 18 at midnight to maintain public peace and safety during the festive period.

Authorities have urged citizens to celebrate responsibly, respecting both the law and the dignity of others, to keep the festival enjoyable and incident-free.
