Mumbai woke up to overcast skies on Monday, following a night of heavy showers, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the city and nearby Thane and Palghar districts. Isolated areas are expected to receive intense rainfall, and a high tide warning is in place, with waves forecast to rise up to 4.34 metres, heightening the risk of flooding in low-lying and coastal zones.

Mumbai logged 80% of June rainfall already

Mumbai has already received 80% of its average June rainfall, with Colaba recording 478 mm and Santacruz 425 mm. The downpour has boosted lake levels to 26%, the highest mid-June reserve in three years. However, weekend waterlogging prompted civic officials to advise caution near seafronts and flood-prone roads.

The IMD predicts continued rain this week, with heavy showers on June 23-24 and 26, easing briefly midweek. Temperatures will hover between 24°C and 32°C. Fishermen are warned against venturing into rough seas, while commuters should expect delays due to possible disruptions. Stay prepared with rain gear and avoid unnecessary travel.
