Mumbai is set to face another round of intense rainfall over the next four to five days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Financial Capital has already been experiencing heavy downpours, with an Orange Alert issued for the Konkan region.
Overall, Mumbai recorded 93 mm of rainfall within 24 hours, marking the third consecutive day of 100+ mm precipitation. The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Mumbai for the next three days, indicating the continuation of heavy rainfall in some areas.
Flight disruptions and travel advisories
In the last 24 hours, Mumbai recorded 93 mm of rainfall, with some areas like Trombay’s Shahaji Nagar Municipal School receiving up to 155.6 mm, followed by 151.1 mm at the North Division office, 149.6 mm at Nutan Vidyamandir in Mankhurd, and 129.2 mm at Adarsh Nagar in Worli.

This intense rainfall has led to significant disruptions in daily life, especially for flyers and Mumbai Local travellers. Air India, IndiGo, and Vistara have all issued advisories, warning of potential delays and offering options for refunds or rescheduling. Flight operations at Mumbai Airport have been severely affected, with 36 flights cancelled and 15 diverted on Sunday alone.
Local train services, particularly on the Harbour Line, have experienced delays due to waterlogging near several stations. The Central Railway services faced disruptions between Dadar and Matunga stations.
Citizens advised to stay informed
The authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and have instructed disaster response teams to be on high alert. The state government is also ensuring that food, medicine, and relief supplies are adequately stocked, and temporary shelters are prepared.
In a tweet, Mumbai Police advised residents to avoid coastal areas due to ongoing heavy rains and to only leave their homes if absolutely necessary. They urged citizens to take precautions and to call 100 in case of an emergency.
