The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transpost (BEST) started its ₹1 travel scheme under the name of ‘Freedom Plan’ on the 1st of August 2022.
The Freedom Plan was launched to promote digitalization, and through it, users could travel on any route of Mumbai using BEST buses, just for the fare of ₹1 per ticket, which could be purchased using the Chalo app. Earlier, the program was supposed the run till August 15th,but now, the dates have been extended till the end of this month.
The plan was launched as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’
As per Mumbaikars, this is one of the best initiatives that has been started in order to celebrate 75 years of Independence. The Freedom Plan itself, received an overwhelming response because of which it has been extended for 16 more days.
The officials from BEST reported that more than 1 lakh Mumbaikars have availed the plan and it is a great initiative to promote the digital ticketing systems.
The ₹1 Freedom Plan is valid for new users of the Chalo app and each user can avail five rides for ₹1, irrespective of the routes. Moreover, the plan is valid for both AC and non-AC BEST buses, till the 31st of August.
Freedom Plan will boost the digital ticketing system
The Freedom Plan by BEST has already received a great response as many new users have turned up on the Chalo app in order to receive the benefit of the plan.
The authorities expect these new users to further use the app for ticketing. Thus, they have also launched a daily pass scheme which can also be availed using the Chalo app. Under this scheme, users can have access to any route of the city by paying just ₹50 for non-AC buses and ₹60 for AC buses.
