Mumbai’s Coastal Road Seaside Promenade to open on July 15: Highlights
The long-awaited Seaside Promenade along Mumbai’s Coastal Road, will be opened to the public on July 15, 2025. In the Phase 1, two stretches, 2.75 km from Tata Garden to Haji Ali and 2.5 km from Lovegrove Nullah to B.M. Thackeray Chowk, will be accessible.
The full 7.5 km promenade from Breach Candy to Worli will be opened in phases over the next two and a half years.
Sanitation & cleanliness measures
To maintain cleanliness across the 5.25 km-long stretch, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will deploy five mechanical sweeping machines (three large and two small) on a daily basis. Manual sweeping was ruled out due to the expected footfall and scale of the area.
BMC will further install four temporary bio-toilets, for a period of six months to one year. These will be located near:
Amarsons Garden, Breach Candy
Mahalaxmi
Two locations in Worli
As per reports, these facilities will be designed to blend with the surroundings.
Development & maintenance
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has been tasked with developing and maintaining 53 hectares of the 111 hectares of reclaimed land as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative. This area will feature a range of public-friendly amenities, including jogging tracks, dedicated cycling lanes, green spaces, and seating zones.
Stretching along the southbound carriageway of the Coastal Road between Priyadarshini Park and Worli, the promenade’s seaward side is being shaped into a Marine Drive-style public space, while the landward side is set to include urban forests and themed recreational zones in the coming phases.
