Mumbai's Metro Line 3 to link SoBo to Airport; commercial operations anticipated next month!

These trials encompass a thorough evaluation of various systems.

Mumbai's commuting landscape is undergoing transformation with the initiation of integrated trial runs for Mumbai Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line)  Phase 1. This phase aims to connect South Mumbai to the domestic and international airports, via the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz corridor. Currently, trial runs are ongoing between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Aarey, signalling progress towards smoother commutes.

With commercial operations expected next month, this development offers hope to Mumbai's residents, weary of the city's notorious traffic congestion.

Connecting Aarey to BKC, Metro Line 3 spans 12 kms

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) announced the initiation of these integrated trials on 'X'. These tests encompass a thorough evaluation of various systems, including rolling stock, signalling, telecommunications, traction, and track infrastructure, aimed at ensuring the reliability and safety of the metro rails.

The Phase 1 of Line 3 spans 12 kilometers underground, connecting Aarey to BKC. This corridor is poised to drastically reduce commute times, especially for travellers heading to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport terminals. Additionally, it will seamlessly link commuters to Metro 2 at Marol, serving areas like Versova, Andheri, and Ghatkopar.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will undergo a temporary closure on May 9, 2024, for six hours from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This closure is to facilitate the implementation of the monsoon contingency plan.
