The National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India is set to move its headquarters from Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to a newly allotted site in the same area. Meanwhile, its current BKC office will be converted into a large captive data centre. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has already allocated over an acre land in BKC’s G Block to NSE on a long-term lease of 80 years.

The government issued the allotment letter last week, following which NSE is expected to begin the approval process soon. The construction is to be completed within three years thereafter.

Consolidating operations under one roof

Currently, NSE operates from multiple locations, including:

  • BKC Headquarters: Houses the IT division and listing-related activities.

  • Adani Inspire Tower: Recent lease of 175,000 sq ft.

  • Ghatkopar Commercial Complex & Equinox Business Park: Hosting various departments.

The new headquarters will consolidate all operations and functions under one roof. NSE’s move to a new headquarters comes in response to its rapid expansion and growing operational needs.

National Stock Exchange (NSE)

The current NSE headquarters, Exchange Plaza, spans 183,000 sq ft and is a landmark in BKC. It has played a pivotal role in the operations and infrastructure of India’s largest stock exchange.

Founded in 1992 and operational from 1994, NSE is the world’s largest derivatives exchange by contracts traded for five consecutive years. As of 2023, NSE is also the third-largest exchange for cash equities by the number of trades. Globally, it ranks as the seventh-largest stock exchange by market capitalisation, surpassing $5 trillion as of May 2024.
