  • Model Y SUV priced between ₹60-68 lakh (higher due to import duties).

  • Initial stock includes six imported units from Shanghai for display and test drives.

After years of anticipation, Tesla has officially entered the Indian market, opening its first showroom at Maker Maxity Mall in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex. Maharashtra Chief Minister inaugurated the showroom and expressed hope for future manufacturing and R&D plans in the country.

The company is launching with its Model Y SUV, priced at ₹59.89 lakh for the rear-wheel drive and ₹68 lakh for the long-range version. These units are being imported as CBUs from Shanghai, leading to higher prices due to import duties.

While Tesla hasn’t confirmed plans to manufacture locally, the showroom launch aligns with India’s new EV policy, which offers lower import duties and incentives. The Mumbai showroom will serve as a customer experience centre, and Tesla is also setting up a service centre in Kurla West.

With the buzz building, Tesla’s next showroom could soon pop up in Delhi, marking the brand’s electric future in India.
