Mumbai’s air travel landscape is poised for transformation with the soon-to-open Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), but IndiGo has assured passengers that it will continue operating from the city’s existing Terminal 1 (T1) for the foreseeable future. CEO Peter Elbers confirmed that while the airline will be one of the first to fly from NMIA, it will maintain its operations at T1, ensuring smooth connectivity for travellers.
However, questions linger over NMIA’s readiness. With terminal interiors unfinished, road connectivity lacking, and the monsoon season fast approaching, experts warn that a June launch could pose serious operational challenges.
IndiGo’s new routes, hotel expansion & more
At a press conference in Mumbai, IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers announced a new partnership with Accor Hotels, allowing IndiGo and Accor loyalty members to convert points between flights and hotel stays. He also outlined the airline’s expansion plans, 10 new destinations next fiscal and long-haul routes to Europe, Australia, and the Middle East once the A321XLR aircraft arrives.
IndiGo’s parent company, InterGlobe, will also partner with Accor to invest in budget hotel chain Treebo, aiming to create India’s third-largest hospitality network with 30,000+ rooms and 300 hotels by 2030.
The announcements come amid ongoing uncertainty about how operations will be split between Mumbai Airport and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. IndiGo says it will finalise its strategy once it receives more clarity from airport authorities.
