The Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Coastal Road is expected to open to the public by November. Constructed at a cost of ₹4 crore, this new 2.2 km-long signal-free bypass will connect MTNL junction to R2 MMRDA ground, adjacent to the BKC connector bridge. This new road along the Mithi River, aims to help drivers move swiftly across BKC.
However, traffic jams on entering and exiting the main business area are likely to persist. But the new stretch is expected to reduce congestion within BKC itself. As per officials, ground strengthening and compacting work is complete, and cement concreting is set to commence soon, since monsoons are over and dry weather is approaching.
Current traffic situation in BKC
Traffic in BKC has surged as more and more companies establish offices there. During peak hours, navigating the 4-km stretch within BKC takes at least 30 minutes, with extra 15 minutes to just enter and exit.
Congestion remains despite the construction of several flyovers, including the BKC connector and the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road. Ongoing work on the Mumbai Metro 2B traverses BKC, further compounding the issue. However, this new stretch is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in area.
