The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced plans for a new expressway connecting Kalyan, Dombivli, and neighbouring areas to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This much-needed project aims to provide relief to residents of these growing suburbs, who currently rely heavily on overcrowded local trains for daily commutes.

Expressway to transform suburban travel with direct links to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai

The MMRDA, overseeing development across 6,000 square kilometres of the Greater Mumbai region, is already managing several ambitious projects, including 12 metro lines, two sea bridges, and multiple flyovers and connectors. The new expressway will add to this network, offering a limited-access road built to national expressway standards.

Tenders have been invited to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the expressway, covering studies on land acquisition, environmental impact, and surveys. The DPR, expected to be finalised within eight months of awarding the contract, will define the expressway’s specifications, including its width and alignment.

The expressway will link Badlapur, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan, and Dombivli directly to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, promising shorter travel times and reduced congestion.
