Commuters travelling on the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, India’s longest sea link, can soon enjoy added convenience. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to set up a fuel station and food plaza at Jasai, the Navi Mumbai end of the bridge.
The much-awaited facilities will be located on both sides of the 21.8 km bridge, providing drivers with a much-needed stop to refuel and grab a bite.
New amenities to enhance commuters’ experience
At present, there are no amenities available near the sea link, leaving drivers to look for services before or after crossing. MMRDA officials have started finalising private partners to set up the facilities, which are expected to be running within 3-6 months, offering essential services along the 21.8-kilometer bridge where none currently exist.
This development comes as Atal Setu, also known as Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, marks its first anniversary. While the bridge currently serves an average of 22,689 vehicles daily – significantly lower than the projected 89,463 – traffic is expected to increase with regional economic growth.
The ₹17,843-crore infrastructure marvel, built with JICA’s financial assistance, currently operates with reduced toll rates, with passenger vehicles paying ₹250 per trip following a 50% discount implemented in 2024.
