Mumbai's upcoming Gold Line Metro, also known as Metro 8, is set to link Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and the new Navi Mumbai International Airport. Currently, no mass rapid transport system (MRTS) links the two airports, making the new 35-kilometer Gold Line corridor a significant addition to the city's transit network. This ₹15,000 crore project is currently awaiting final approval from the Maharashtra Government.

35-km corridor to transform Mumbai's two airports

Currently, no mass rapid transport system (MRTS) links the two airports, making the 35-kilometer Gold Line corridor a significant addition to the city's transit network. Designed to accommodate nine lakh daily passengers, the metro will significantly reduce travel time, ease congestion, and enhance connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Discussions are ongoing about which agency will execute the project. Previously delayed due to debates over execution—between the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) via Maha Metro and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)—the project is now gaining urgency with the Navi Mumbai Airport set to open next year.
