Mumbai commuters continue to face severe transport disruptions as Ola and Uber drivers extend their strike for a second day. Thousands of app-based cab drivers from across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region have gathered at Azad Maidan near CSMT, demanding fairer conditions. Drivers claim current earnings of ₹8–₹9 per kilometre are unsustainable due to rising fuel costs, maintenance expenses, and loan burdens.

Demands from drivers

  • Fare rationalisation in line with RTO-approved rates

  • A ban on bike taxi services like Rapido

  • Caps on auto and cab permits to prevent oversupply

  • Reinstatement of deactivated driver accounts

  • Creation of a welfare board for drivers

  • A fair grievance redressal mechanism

Airport issues travel advisory

The strike has hit airport travel particularly hard. Mumbai Airport authorities issued an advisory on X (formerly Twitter), asking passengers to arrange backup travel options. Several travellers reported missed rides and delayed journeys.
