Maharashtra is stepping up its tourism game with the introduction of ‘Tourism Mitras’ at popular destinations. These on-site guides will offer comprehensive support, including information on local attractions, medical aid, and assistance in emergencies such as theft or lost luggage.
This initiative by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) aims to enhance both safety and convenience for travellers, reflecting the state’s growing appeal as a tourist destination.
‘Mitras’ ready to enhance your travel experience
This initiative comes as Maharashtra sees a surge in the number of tourists visiting the state. The trend mirrors the broader growth in domestic and international tourism across India, as exemplified by Kerala’s impressive visitor statistics. In 2023, Kerala welcomed 2.18 crore domestic tourists and 6.49 lakh international travellers, followed by 50.37 lakh domestic tourists in the first quarter of 2024.
MTDC officials have noted the growing number of solo travellers, particularly women, exploring Maharashtra. However, the absence of a dedicated platform for tracking solo visitors has made it difficult to collect precise data and address their specific needs. The introduction of tourism mitras aims to address this gap by providing comprehensive support.
This move is part of MTDC’s broader strategy to enhance Maharashtra’s appeal as a tourist-friendly destination, boosting its reputation for safety and hospitality as it continues to attract a lot of travellers.
