The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has globally ranked 45th in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject (Engineering and Technology), for 2024. With an overall score of 79.1 out of 100, the institute has improved on its last year’s performance in the same subject by two places. In 2023, IIT-B stood at Rank 47 with 80.4 points.
This year, at number one is Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with 96.1 points, followed by Stanford University with 93.8 and University of Oxford with 93.4 points.
Before concluding its finding, the British higher education analyst QS, compares varsities across the world in 5 broad areas and 56 narrow disciplines. IIT Bombay’s scores in each category are as follows – Academic Reputation (84.6), Employer Reputation (83.1), Citations Per Paper (80), H-Index Citations (66.1) and International Research Network (57.6).
Further, IIT-B has ranked at an impressive 25th position in Mineral and Mining Engineering. A significant jump from last year’s 37th position. It has also performed well in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, having notched up to 30th rank.
Apart from IIT-Bombay, other Maharashtrian Universities have also featured in the QR World Rankings. Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) featured in Natural Sciences, University of Mumbai (MU) in Business and Management Studies, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Physics and Astronomy, and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Sociology. Moreover, Symbiosis International University Pune significantly improved its ranking from 401-450 to 140th in Business and Management.
