Former Bandra Corporator, Asif Zakaria described the installations as a “wasteful ₹300+ crore Bollywood-themed beautification under Metro 2B line.” He criticised its lack of transparency, noting that no tenders or public expressions of interest were sought.
Environmental activists and residents argue that the metallic structures are “eyesores”, detracting from the area’s aesthetics. Locals have also raised concerns about the installations’ vulnerability to vandalism and the high costs of maintenance. Activist-led petitions to the BMC and MMRDA call for redirecting funds towards sustainable urban beautification projects that better serve community needs.
