Teachers on SSC exam duty now permitted to travel in Mumbai locals

The Maharashtra government on Thursday, permitted all teaching and non-teaching staff involved in class 10 (SSC) exams assessments to avail the suburban train services. It may be noted that other school staff, who are required to be in schools for online classes, are not allowed to board the local trains. The state has decided to have 50% attendance for school teachers and all lecturers in junior college.

Local train travel in Mumbai was suspended for the general public, yet again on April 15, in wake of the second wave of coronavirus infection. Since then, the suburban train network is only ferrying people involved in essential businesses and those stepping out for vaccination or other medical concerns. However, the state government granted a much-awaited relief and broadened the scope of train travel for teachers involved in SSC exams assessments.

As per reports, all teaching and non-teaching school staff permitted to undertake local train travel, will be issued Level 2 passes, under the authority of the Deputy Director (Education), Mumbai. He will be deployed as the nodal coordinating official to collect district-wise information about such teachers and relay the travel pass to them via an SMS link. This link has to be downloaded on the phone as proof of permitted travel.

This ease has followed the teachers' protests at various railway stations across the MMR on Monday. Reportedly, teachers travelled without tickets and paid fines with the motive of getting the government's approval to board the trains to assess SSC board examinations.
