Starting June 16, Central Railway’s Mumbai Division will launch an intensive ticket-checking drive targeting ticketless travellers in First-Class compartments of suburban local trains. Special ticket-checking squads, accompanied by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, will conduct end-to-end checks across First-Class coaches during peak travel times.
These rotating teams will ensure continuous monitoring and immediate action against offenders. The move aims to curb unauthorised travel and ensure fare compliance.
Instant penalties and legal consequences
Passengers found without valid First-Class tickets or passes will face on-the-spot fines. Those who fail to pay promptly will be handed over to ticket-checking staff at the next station, where further legal proceedings, including prosecution, may follow.
Addressing passenger complaints on overcrowding
The intensified checks follow numerous complaints from First-Class commuters about overcrowding and misuse of premium compartments by unauthorised passengers. Central Railway officials state that the initiative is intended to uphold the rights of fare-paying travellers who expect a less congested and more comfortable journey.
Moreover, Central Railway has urged all suburban passengers to travel with valid tickets or passes and to fully cooperate with ticket-checking staff.
