Two of the biggest societies of Bandra East are set to undergo a massive transformation. One is Patrakar Nagar, a large Cooperative Housing Society, established on government-allocated two-acre land in the 1960s for artists, journalists, and architects. Nearby, Artek Apartments is another enclave of architects and technicians, also slated for redevelopment.
While renovation plans are in motion in these two Bandra East societies, the nearby Kala Nagar area has been facing a major crisis. For the past week, foul-smelling, contaminated water has been flowing through household taps, leading to a surge in waterborne diseases.

As per officials, the decision to pursue redevelopment is rising maintenance costs and the demand for larger, modern homes with top-notch amenities by the younger generation. The Secretary of the Patrakar Cooperative Housing Society revealed that besides Raymond Realty, the society is now exploring offers from other prominent real estate players such as Larsen & Toubro. On the other hand, Artek Apartment Society has already entered into a redevelopment deal with Man Infraconstruction Limited.

Residents of Kala Nagar in Bandra East have been grappling with foul-smelling, contaminated water flowing from their taps for the past week, resulting in a rise in waterborne diseases.
Shockingly, a BMC water contamination test uncovered traces of E. coli and Coliform bacteria, suggesting possible fecal contamination. Samples collected on June 10 from the Patrakar Society tested unsafe, raising an alarm among the community members.
