In a city like Indore, one that is expanding at a really high rate, the metro is something that has come out to become a necessity. The metro here, has been under works for a long time and though there is still no update on the completion of work, new reports state that the proposed underground route will be extended to cover a total length of 4.5 kilometers. Read on to know all about Indore metro, it’s timeline and future.

Previously it was revealed that the underground route would be around 2 kilometers in length, but now it seems the route has been extended. The main reason behind this extension is the fact that Bada Ganpati Square and surrounding areas are really crowded and it would not make sense to construct an elevated metro route halting the traffic and disrupting the daily commute of people. The elevated metro route then, would only add to the traffic issues.

The extended route will go from Bada Ganpati Square all the way to the airport via Rajwada. This is one of the most crowded routes in Indore and the metro, once functional will surely help clear the areas plagued with traffic issues. The completed metro route that will cover an area of 29 kilometers will be mostly elevated. Additionally, the authorities will also build a foot-over bridge that will directly connect the metro to the airport, which recently got the international status.

Indore is already one of the fastest developing cities of the country and this news has got us pumped up. As of now, one phase of the metro has been proposed. The proposed route is the first phase of the Indore metro project and it should become operational by the year 2023. This route of the metro, the metro line- III will consist of a 31-kilometer line and it will cover prominent areas in the city.

Much like intra rail systems in the other cities, the Indore metro will come as one of the best developments for the city. The metro will make commutes much easier for residents living in all parts of the city and will also make for a smarter city. At its core, the goal is to put Indore on the metro map and bring it on par with cities such as Lucknow, Delhi, Mumbai and other such fast developing cities.

We all know the toll that something like construction of a full fledged metro system will take on the city and its residents. To keep the disruptions at a minimum, the authorities have planned to execute the construction in a way that daily city activities are not hindered. Owing to this, a few stations will be built underground, while the others will be overhead tracks.

As of now, 6 corridors of the metro have been proposed but the first one will be functional by 2023 and construction of the same will begin shortly. As for the funding, officials have stated that there is no shortage and work will begin in full swing.

We feel that this is one of the best developments that we have heard of in a while. The metro will not only come as a boon for residents of the city, but for tourists and visitors as well.

While partial relaxations are awarded to the other 22 cities, the high caseload and emergence of fresh infections in the listed regions have discouraged the administration from withdrawing the restrictions in these regions.

Parallelly, the state has authorised the local civic body to decide the level of curbs in 3 of these 14 districts, namely Mumbai, Mumbai suburban and Thane. As such, the BMC has permitted all shops (except malls) to open here till 10 PM. The local trains will, however, remain shut for all passengers.
