Pick up a new skill and try your hand at Indian Blue Pottery at this workshop in Jaipur

The dying art form of Indian Blue pottery has dazzled all. From the Kings and Queens of Europe, to the Mughal Rulers of Delhi, everyone has wanted a piece of the famous Jaipuri Blue pottery. People would travel from far and wide just to witness these works of art.

Now, however, the art is dying and it is not just about art, but the history of Jaipur and the pride of it's past rulers. With this workshop in the Pink City, you can try your hand at the sacred art too, and maybe, just maybe, help rejuvenate the flame that makes the cobalt stand out.

What's happening?

If you were thinking of picking up a new hobby, then this could really turn into something fruitful for you. Blue pottery is a revered form of art and at the workshop by Ram Gopal Saini, you get to learn it from one of the best. Here, you get to mould a mixture of quartz stone powder, powdered glass, fuller’s earth, borax, gum and water into something exciting.

The art of blue pottery is, in a sense, extravagant, lavish and almost elitist, but is one that packs history and culture as well. The pale blue colour that comes only after a rigorous process and the immaculate hand craftsmanship are not easily learnt. However, Gopal Saini, who is immensely skilled at it, will try his level best to make you learn to make at least one thing that can live up to history.

In case you were wondering just what you'll be making here at the workshop, well, we've got the answers. Most of what you make will be decorative pieces for you to keep in your living room, including stuff like ashtrays, vases, coasters, small bowls, boxes for trinkets and more. So go ahead and light up your living room and leave your guests dazzled.
