Repair at cross runways set to affect 180 Indore-Mumbai flights

The cross runways at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSIA), will undergo renovations starting February 7 and are expected to continue till March 30, 2019. Several airlines have already started making preparations and rescheduling their flights for the time period.

Expected to undergo re-carpeting and overlay work, both the runways will remain closed between 11 am to 5 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

A senior official from Airport Authority of India (AAI) was quoted saying that the information has already been communicated to all the stake holders and airlines, so that passengers are intimated about their flight schedules and status on the days the repair work will go on.

The CSIA has two cross runways which handle 950 aircraft daily, on average, while the main runway handles maximum flight operations from this airport. The secondary runways are less efficient than the main runway and are used only when the main runway is not available.

The officials at CSIA said that people who have already made their bookings will be provided alternate arrangements to avoid any inconveniences for passengers. Airport director Aryama Sanyal was reported saying that they are still waiting on the notice for proposed runway closure and the closures 'may’ affect flight movements on Indore-Mumbai route on certain days.

So people who are planning to travel between the two airports are advised to check their flight schedules and status between the said period.
