Located in Indore's Shree Nagar locality, Chhatri Bagh shares a link to the Holkar Dynasty that once ruled the bounds of this city. Originally a burial site for kings and queens, the premises of this structure dotted by canopies, or chhatris, has now been turned into a popular park. If you are looking to break the monotony of lockdown with a stroll in a park, then mask on and visit Chhatri Bagh for a trip down the annals of history and some fresh air!
Featuring memorial canopies
Within the premises of Chhatri Bagh are groups of memorial canopies dedicated to the royal Holkars of Indore. However, the centre of attraction of this place is the cenotaph dedicated to Malhar Rao Holkar I, the founder of the Holkar Dynasty. All the cenotaphs located here are dome-shaped in structure and have pyramidal spires perched on top of the dome.
Indore's Chhatri Bagh holds a special appeal to the visitors who stop by during the night as the chhatris are artificially illuminated and the fountains situated in the artificial lake come to life. Apart from spectacular and colourful hues strewn across the garden, this place also offers boating facilities for visitors.
Located near the Khan River, the picturesque visuals of the Chhatri Bagh in Indore are as mesmerizing as the historic tales that its structures speak of. So grab your camera, mask and sanitiser as you make your way to this park. Also, don't forget to observe COVID-appropriate behaviour when you venture out!
