International Tiger Day 2021: Rescue centres to come up in 4 cities of Uttar Pradesh!

In a bid to protect and conserve tigers, 4 new rescue centres have been proposed, that will come up in UP's Pilibhit, Meerut, Maharajganj and Chitrakut. As per reports, a rewilding centre will also be established and the central government has approved the project. Reportedly, each rescue facility will be set up at an approximate cost of ₹4.90 crores and the state administration will receive these funds from Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management & Planning Authority(CAMPA).

Lucknow, Jaipur & Mumbai among cities with high NO₂ pollution levels: Greenpeace India study

Nitrogen dioxide is a dangerous pollutant that is released when coal-based fuel is burnt in motor vehicles, power generation and industrial processes. A report by Greenpeace India, a non-government organisation (NGO), has analysed NO₂ concentrations in eight of India's most populous cities. This report claims that between April 2020 and April 2021, nitrogen dioxide pollution has increased in Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata.

25.5 crore saplings planted in UP on Sunday as part of a mega plantation drive

Uttar Pradesh witnessed a mega plantation drive on Sunday, wherein around 25.5 crore saplings were planted in a single day! This step has been taken with the aim of expanding the state's overall forest cover, which presently stands at 3.05% against the national average of 2.89%. Reportedly, the UP government targets to plant 30 crore saplings in July.

Researchers from Lucknow University's IWS compile census for Sarus Cranes & Vultures in UP

Researchers from the Institute of Wildlife Sciences at Lucknow University have finally compiled all reports of the state-wide consensus regarding vultures and sarus cranes in UP. Conducted by the state biodiversity board, these data records have been developed to analyse the survival threats being faced by both the species due to habitat destruction in the state. The finding of these files will assist the board and forest department to map the overall behaviour of the birds, to map preservation programmes.

UP's plantation drives to focus on immunity-boosting medicinal plants!

Prioritising the health and wellness of state residents, the Uttar Pradesh government will implement the upcoming plantation drive in July, with a special focus. When the pandemic has highlighted the need for immunity-boosting practices, the state machinery has planned to include medicinal and aromatic plants in the campaign. As per the forest department authorities, over 18 species of such saplings, including Dahujan, Amaltas, Arjun, Neem, Kadamba, Ashok and Hibiscus will be planted.
