The first thought that pops up in our mind when we think of Khadi is- comfortable clothing! One might pick this indigenous fabric for casual outfits but who could have thought Khadi can also be used as elaborate bridal wear. A stunning display of a Khadi wedding collection at this year's expo at IGP, organised by the Khadi Gramodyog Board, garnered a lot of attention and changed the way this fabric is perceived by many.
Khadi for the nation, Khadi for fashion
From elegant lehengas in magnificent Khadi silk to western attires and even casual outfits, the designers showcased the versatility of this fabric and how! Apart from famous Indian designers like Ritu Beri, Farah Ansari, Rina Dhaka, Asma Husain, Aditi Rastogi and Himmat Singh Lucknow's Chikankari and silk artisans also graced the event. Besides, the show was directed by Gaurav Gaur who is known for being a part of the mentoring team in various pageants across India.
Talking about the theme of the event, a spokesperson said, "The show was based on the concept 'Khadi for the nation, Khadi for fashion' and the fabric for all costumes was provided by Khadi Gramodyog Board".
Khadi wedding collection steals the show!
Fashion is no longer limited to just trends and designs, it is now a way to encourage and further the dialogue on making better and sustainable choices. Keeping this in mind, many revivalists have been working hard to bring Khadi back in different versions into the mainstream world of fashion. Taking this idea a notch ahead, this show highlighted the use of this hand-spun fabric in casual western and traditional wear. However, the wedding collection in Khadi was the highlight of this extraordinary show.
