Mumbai-based startups & innovators invited by BMC to solve city's civic issues

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to induct technology and innovation to tackle a whole host of civic issues in Mumbai. The mission will progress under the municipality's Business Incubation Centre with the help of city-based startups and their expertise in different subjects.

The key focus areas will include stormwater drain management, waste management, cleanliness in slum areas, education and public health. Startups and innovators can submit their entries with the proposed solutions till September 5, to chief.bdd@mcgm.gov.in.

Ghatkopar-Mankhurd flyover now open for public

Mumbai's road landscape has accommodated yet another highway that is easing traffic woes in the city while reducing the travel time simultaneously. This 2.9 km, 6-lane highway links Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Marg to Sion-Panvel highway and has reduced the 30 minutes journey from Ghatkopar and Mankhurd to just over 3 minutes.

As per reports, the initial deadline of this project was marked in January 2019, which was extended due to a change in design. The highway now has a connecting pass till the Deonar dumping ground as well.

Maiden trials of the first phase of  Metro Lines 2A & 7 flagged off in Mumbai on Monday

As per the projected timeline, MMRDA commenced the maiden trials along a 20 km stretch of the overhead metro corridors, 2A and 7, on Monday. The Maharashtra CM flagged off the demo tests today, unrolling a festive spirit to honour the benchmark achievement. Reportedly, the Deputy CM, Mumbai Mayor along with other eminent cabinet ministers and MMRDA officials were present during the trial inauguration at the Akurli Metro Station.

This stretch will be launched as the second arm of the suburban metro corridor in the MMR, after 7 long years of Mumbai's solitary metro line, Metro 1. Authorities aim to commission commercial services along this sweep in two phases, starting September 2021.

COVID-19 cases in Mumbai dip to their lowest single-day tally in 5 weeks on Monday!

Mumbai achieved a small yet significant victory against the coronavirus infection on Monday, when the daily record of fresh cases dipped to 2,624 cases, the lowest single-day tally in 5 months. Before this, the lowest case rise was noted on March 17 with 2,377 cases. While the decline in the number of new infections brings respite, it also has to be noted that this number may be attributed to the sharp dip in the number of COVID tests conducted here. As per BMC reports, testing has dived from 50,000 tests a day to 38,000 tests and even around 28,000 tests during some days.
