'Orange alert' issued in Mumbai;  heavy to very heavy rains in the forecast!

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an 'orange alert' in the city, which indicates that heavy to very heavy rains are expected in sparsely populated regions in Mumbai today. Further, reports state that the central weather forecaster has announced a yellow alert for Mumbai for Saturday and Sunday, with possibilities of heavy showers at isolated locations. Reportedly, the city has been hit hard by the continued effect of the monsoons, with issues of waterlogging and traffic snarls cropping up throughout the city.

IMD issues 'orange alert' in Mumbai, 5 other Maha districts under 'red alert'!

With the ongoing effect of the monsoons, heavy rains continue to lash across Mumbai and different areas of Maharashtra. As per the latest reports, the Indian India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a 'red alert' in five districts of the state and an 'orange alert' in the capital city Mumbai. It has been reported that the central weather forecaster has predicted extremely heavy rainfall in sparsely populated areas of Raigad, Pune and few other districts on Wednesday and Thursday.

The onset of monsoon in Mumbai this year was well aligned with the predictions of IMD as it arrived timely on 9th June. So far the city has received a total rainfall of 914.1mm. These numbers are quite high from the normal monthly average noted along the years, which is stated to be 493.1 mm. Further, these statistics prompt that the amount of rain received in Mumbai is the 3rd highest recorded in the past 10 years. The Indian Meteorological Department has raised a yellow-grade rain alert in Mumbai and Thane until June 17, amidst the forecast of heavy rains here. Isolated showers, ranging from moderate to intense spells, will lash over these regions until Thursday.
