In a move to ensure easier commute for the citizens in Lucknow, Public Works Department will repair and restore the rail and river over bridges in Nishatganj. As per the plans, the current issues will be identified and mended while extensive maintenance interventions will be undertaken for the old establishments. The authorities have chalked out a special framework for this project so that work is carried out without halting the road traffic for a long time.
Over 30-year-old bridges to be strengthened
PWD Provincial Division Executive Engineer, Manish Verma informed that these bridges were set up to amplify connectivity between Ashok Marg and Nishatganj. Built over 30 years ago, these facilities have been ravaged during the course of time and now, they need specific measures for repair and maintenance.
Under the planned initiative, the bearings between the pillars of the bridge and the viaduct will be replaced. These bearings make sure that the bridge maintains its strength during situations of high traffic load. Besides, the breakages will also be spotted and repaired. Executive Engineer Manish Verma informed that the authorities are trying to implement this project without stopping the traffic, given the high vehicular count observed on these roads.
Bearings to be changed through a hydraulic jack
As per the scheme, the bearings will be replaced with the help of a hydraulic jack between the pillar and the bridge pier caps. The authorities have informed that the traffic will be stopped, partially or completely, only for a short period of time. Besides, vehicular movements will also be halted in case of heavy traffic.
Both these bridges are used by the commuters to reach areas like Mahanagar, Nishatganj, Ashok Marg, Vikas Nagar, Indira Nagar, Bhootnath, Aliganj and Kapurthala. Given the age of these facilities, they need repair and restoration soon to ensure safe and secured travel for the city folks.
