UP's first Omicron case reported on Friday as a Ghaziabad couple tests positive

Amid the alarms of India's Omicron tally hitting over the 100 mark, Uttar Pradesh was included in the list of states reporting the infection. The first-ever case of the infectious variant of concern was logged here on Friday when a couple from Ghaziabad tested positive. Previously, the couple had tested COVID positive after returning from Maharashtra on December 2, following which their samples were sent for genome sequencing in Delhi.

New provisions rolled out at Lucknow Int'l Airport amid Omicron scare

Amidst the rising concerns of the Omicron strain of COVID in India, the government of Uttar Pradesh is gearing up to take preventive precautionary measures to check the pandemic situation across the state. As per reports, the administration has equipped Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport to comply with the latest COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Health Ministry for the same. To ensure safety from this Variant of Concern (VOC), the state government is focusing on amping testing, vaccination, surveillance and sanitisation in all UP districts.

New Action Plan launched to combat the threat of Omicron in UP

A special team of doctors and health experts, that had been formed during the second wave of Covid-19, has now formed a new action plan to prevent the spread of the new Omicron variant in Uttar Pradesh. As part of the plan, the team of doctors from the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, has come up with precautions that the state needs to take, after taking into account the new variant's effects post-vaccination.
