Amid the alarms of India's Omicron tally hitting over the 100 mark, Uttar Pradesh was included in the list of states reporting the infection. The first-ever case of the infectious variant of concern was logged here on Friday when a couple from Ghaziabad tested positive. Previously, the couple had tested COVID positive after returning from Maharashtra on December 2, following which their samples were sent for genome sequencing in Delhi.
Containment zone in Ghaziabad to prevent Omicron spread
According to reports, both the patients are asymptomatic and are presently in home isolation. A containment zone has been earmarked around their home in Ghaziabad to prevent any further spread. All the contacts of the couple who had tested negative the first time around, have now been tested again.
Meanwhile, 22 more patients in UP tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of active cases to 164. During this time frame, around 15 people recovered from the infection. The state has also ramped up testing in a bid to trace, track and treat the virus in its nascent stages, and as many as 1,78,374 samples were screened for the infection on Friday. As yet, around 9,03,72,314 people have been tested for the COVID infection here.
