Despite an improvement in oxygen supply & bed availability, Lucknowites still stranded for help

The fourth week of March heralded the arrival of the second wave of Coronavirus in Lucknow and now that it has been 3-4 weeks, we can expect more recoveries in the upcoming weeks. In the last 24 hours alone, 5960 patients have been discharged post their recovery, which is the direct result of the efforts put in by the medical fraternity and the state government to manage this crisis. However, this light at the end of a dark tunnel seems to be lacking in warmth! So, even though the situation has considerably improved in the past 15 days, the conundrum of the adequacy of the measures put in force still persists.

Lucknow welcomes the 2nd Oxygen Express packed with 60,000 litres of LMO on Monday

Under the state's 'Oxygen Operation', a major COVID respite arrived in Lucknow on Monday morning in the form of the second Oxygen Express train. Carrying about 60,000 litres of liquid medical oxygen, the roll-on-roll-off (RoRo) delivery service from Bokaro reached Charbagh Railway Station, to meet the threatening shortage of oxygen supplies amid persistent COVID rise across UP. Two of the four tankers, each loading 15,000 oxygen capacity, were immediately ferried to Jhansi and Bareilly to stabilise the COVID recovery there. 'Oxygen monitoring system' set up in Lucknow to ensure seamless O2 supply in city hospitals

In the thick of inflating COVID-19 infections in Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, announced that an 'oxygen monitoring system' has been set up here. Under the blanket of this system, "a Command Control Centre has been opened at Home Department in Lucknow," the official added.

UP businessman refills oxygen cylinders at ₹1, benefitting Lucknow, Kanpur & other UP districts

Given the acute shortage of oxygen cylinders in the state and with the prices of the available ones shooting up to ₹30,000 in the black market, it is simply astounding that in UP's Hamirpur district, refilling of oxygen cylinders is being carried out at just ₹1.

A businessman hailing from the district, Rohit Agarwal, has undertaken this noble initiative for the aid of coronavirus victims and as yet, he has refilled over 1,500 oxygen cylinders at the cost of only a rupee. Agarwal is the owner of Rimjhim Ispat Factory, located in Sumerpur Industrial Area and currently, he has replaced his production work here with this oxygen refilling facility.

DRDO to supply oxygen cylinders to hospitals in Lucknow & other Uttar Pradesh districts

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light the major issue of oxygen shortage in the country. While hospitals are pretty badly hit by the low oxygen supply, the DRDO (Defence Research & Development Organisation) has initiated efforts on similar lines, to make up for the lack. The body has sent out 1000 oxygen cylinders to Uttar Pradesh and out of the lot, 150 these tanks have reached hospitals across Lucknow already. Authorities stated that additional 850 units will reach the state's capital and other areas of Uttar Pradesh, by this evening. In total, the DRDO aims to supply a total of almost 5,000 litres of oxygen.
