Just one test-fire created history!
The Jaivana Cannon, housed within the premises of Jaigarh Fort, is reported to be built by Sawai Raja Jai Singh II to showcase the formidable military strength protecting Amer Fort from foreign invasions. Famous folklore attached to it is that it has been fired only once to check its range and the impact created a pond in the Chaksu Village, other than causing elephants to faint. It is also believed that the soldiers handling the gun-powder had to jump into water-tanks, right after igniting the cannon, to save themselves from deadly skin burns.
The unique features of this Fort, apart from the military equipment stored here, are the lattice-work windows and square-shaped gardens which are said to be influenced by the Persian architectural style. Other attractions within this precinct include Vilas Mandir, Aram Mandir, Laxmi Vilas and Lalit Mandir. Further, while you are here, you can extend your evening getaway by visiting the nearby historical places, such as Amer Fort and Panna Meena ka Kund.
Even if history and vintage armaments don't fascinate you, Jaigarh Fort should feature on your travel list for it its structure is absolutely stunning to behold. Moreover, this is the place where your dream of running through palatial corridors with a dupatta flying away with the wind, just like in the Bollywood movies, can be recreated!
