In a notable feat for the Kanpur Metro Project, the first ‘made in India’ coaches arrived in the city yesterday. Reportedly, three rakes were flagged off from the Savli Plant in Gujarat on September 18, which reached Kanpur on Monday. Post arrival, they were taken to the polytechnic depot via Bypass and G.T. Road. Now, the UPMRC officials will initiate measures for assembling the trains so that the trial runs can be started by November 15.

As per reports, the coaches were brought to the city in three different trailers. On their way to Kanpur, the coaches passed through Jaipur and Agra. Thereafter, they were taken to Etawah via the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. After a journey of five days, the much-awaited units finally reached their destination today.
The priority corridor of Kanpur Metro, connecting IIT Kanpur to Motijheel stretches along a total of 9 stations. The trial runs will be conducted on this route after all primary preparations are complete. After the assembling process is finished, the maiden trials will happen on the tracks set up within the depot premises. The metro rakes will be evaluated for running at a speed of 90 Km/hr. After deployment, the trains will be allowed to function at a maximum permissible speed of 80 Km/hr.
