Heavy rains hit Ahmedabad, causing waterlogging across the city
Ahmedabad witnessed rain Monday morning, leading to waterlogging in several areas. Intense showers accompanied by lightning and strong winds were reported in areas such as Vastrapur, Memnagar, SG Highway, Paldi, and Kalupur, among others.
Residents in these areas faced significant movement difficulties as roads became submerged. Strong winds uprooted a tree, blocking a major road. The IMD forecast suggests light rain for the rest of the day.
New food plaza planned near Prahladnagar Cross Road
AMC has planned a new food plaza on the road from Prahladnagar Cross Road to SG Highway, with an investment of ₹6 crores. The project will include 28 food stalls and seating for 312 people. Construction is scheduled to begin post-Diwali.
In line with local regulations, the food plaza will only serve vegetarian options, similar to existing riverfront food courts. The facility will also feature a waste food composter, parking for two and four-wheelers, and a toilet block.
Water supply disruption planned in 18 wards due to maintenance
Residents in several parts of Ahmedabad should expect disruptions in water supply on Monday and Tuesday. The Jaspur Water Treatment Plant will undergo maintenance from 8 AM to 4 PM on Monday, affecting water distribution in the West, Northwest, and Southwest zones.
Areas like Gota, Thaltej, Makhtampura, and Paldi are likely to experience low pressure and insufficient water supply as storage tanks may run low during the shutdown. Water supply will resume once the plant reopens and treatment processes are completed.
City police launch new app for reporting traffic violations
Ahmedabad city police have introduced the Violation on Camera (VoC) mobile application, enhancing the city’s traffic violation reporting system. With this new app, all 1,200 traffic constables can now capture and report violations directly, forwarding the information to the control room for e-challan generation.
This expansion comes under the ‘One Nation, One Challan’ initiative, adding a fourth method to the system. Other methods include CCTV-based e-challans at major junctions, on-the-spot fines by head constables, and speed gun checks by interceptor vans.
Kankaria rides reopen before Diwali
Ahmedabad’s Fun Blast entertainment zone and the rides at Kankaria have reopened from Sunday, just in time for the Diwali vacation. All necessary procedures, including fire safety, building use (BU) permissions, and GDCR approvals, have been completed to ensure public safety.
