Kankaria Zoo celebrates Wildlife Week, free entry for children aged 12 and under
Kankaria Zoo in Ahmedabad will celebrate Wildlife Week from the 1st of October to the 7th of October 2024. Children aged 12 and under can enjoy free entry from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, except on Monday when the zoo is closed.
As part of the celebration, the zoo will host educational activities such as a “touch table” exhibit, information sessions on the Friends of Zoo program, wildlife-themed quizzes, poster presentations, and interactive games to help visitors and students learn more about wildlife conservation.
Over 1000 traffic officers deployed for Navratri to manage city roads
As Navratri celebrations begin, over 1,000 traffic officers have been deployed across Ahmedabad to manage increased traffic flow. Officers will be on duty from 9 PM until late at night on major roads like SG Highway, SP Ring Road, and 132 Feet Ring Road, which lead to key Garba venues.
The traffic police will also focus on curbing speeding and intoxicated driving during the festivities.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train to feature Japan’s Shinkansen technology
India’s first Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, expected to be operational after 2026, will feature Japan’s Shinkansen E5, capable of speeds up to 320 kmph. This train will run on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor as part of India’s partnership with Japan to bring advanced high-speed rail technology.
Taiwan has been the only other country to successfully implement Shinkansen technology, benefiting from similar climatic conditions.
Ahmedabad DEO conducts surprise safety drive at city schools
The Ahmedabad Rural and City District Education Officers (DEO) conducted a surprise safety drive targeting schools. The Rural DEO focused on students driving without a valid license, while the City DEO inspected schools for fire safety, road safety, and cyber awareness protocols.
During the operation, traffic violations near Rajasthan School in Shahibaug resulted in over ₹50,000 in fines being issued, in coordination with the RTO and police.
AMC introduces initiative for water conservation with new wells
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has taken a step towards water conservation by allowing councillors to allocate funds from their budgets for constructing percolating and khambati wells.
