Extreme heatwave ends as temp drops to 43.2°C on Sunday
Days after a Red Alert was declared, Ahmedabad experienced relief as temperatures dropped to 43.2°C on Sunday, with a minimum temperature of 30.6°C.
However, the municipal corporation has issued an Orange Alert for Monday and Tuesday, and a Yellow Alert for Wednesday through Friday. Today’s forecast predicts a high of around 43°C with clear skies.
AMC inspects city gaming zones for safety compliance
Following the tragic fire at Rajkot’s TRP Game Zone that claimed 27 lives, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated inspections of local gaming zones to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Acting on state government instructions, AMC has formed three committees to inspect the city’s 15 gaming zones.
These zones have been ordered to cease operations until they meet all safety standards.
Public hospitals begin installing air coolers
After the severe impact of heat on patients and two heat stroke-related deaths at Civil Hospital in Shahibaug, the Gujarat Health Department finally began installing industrial air coolers in city public hospitals last weekend.
However, this response comes notably late, as no measures were implemented when temperatures soared to a record 46.6°C, despite the tragic consequences.
1,500 cameras to be installed on Rath Yatra route for security
The permanent installation of 1,500 CCTV cameras has begun along the Rath Yatra route in sensitive areas such as Daryapur, Shahpur, Kalupur, and Jamalpur. Currently, 348 cameras have been installed.
The Crime Branch’s CCTV project aims to enhance security along the 18-kilometer route, with full implementation expected before the Rath Yatra on July 7. Meetings with local shop owners, community members, and police have been conducted to ensure cooperation and awareness.
Frequent RTO server shutdowns cause public inconvenience
Across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, frequent shutdowns of RTO servers are causing significant inconvenience. Of the state’s 39 RTOs, 23 conduct driving tests using servers, while 16 conduct manual tests.
The manual testing process, involving direct observation by an RTO inspector, avoids server issues. However, server-based tests are prone to downtime, leading to delays and increased workload for RTO offices.
