India’s first Bullet Train set to operate on Mumbai-Ahmedabad route
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced the imminent launch of India’s first bullet train service on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route with services initially running between Surat and Bilimora, scheduled for 2026. The high-speed rail (HSR) project spanning 508 kilometers, with Surat as one of its key stops, is currently under development by the Central government.
The entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor, including Surat-Bilimora in Gujarat, is slated for completion by 2028, marking a significant milestone in India’s transportation infrastructure.
AMC implements AI-based Software for traffic violations
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has developed a specialized software employing artificial intelligence technology to address traffic violations effectively. Utilizing over five thousand CCTV cameras, the software will identify and issue e-memos for more than thirty types of violations detected by the police and municipal corporation.
This initiative aims to streamline enforcement efforts and promote adherence to traffic and civic regulations across the city.
Sabarmati Station to undergo expansion with 10 new platforms
Sabarmati railway station is set to undergo significant expansion with the construction of 10 new platforms, effectively doubling its capacity. As part of a comprehensive redevelopment project costing 301 crores, scheduled for completion by August 2025, the station will witness extensive upgrades.
The redevelopment will include the integration of Jail Road and Dharmanagar stations with a pathway for seamless connectivity. Additionally, a spacious concourse area measuring 120 meters in length and 36 meters in width will be built to enhance passenger experience.
AMC to construct sheds for daily wage earners and laborers
With the onset of heatwave in Ahmedabad, the need for sheds and relief for daily wage earners and laborers has become increasingly critical. In response, AMC has undertaken an initiative to develop sheds for laborers gathering at various spots across the city, commonly known as Kadianaka.
Currently lacking basic amenities such as seating and sanitation facilities, these laborers will soon benefit from AMC’s project. The Corporation plans to construct sheds at an estimated cost of Rs 4.18 crore across six zones of the city. Each shed will accommodate over 200 laborers and will also offer access to the Annapurna Yojana.
Holi Special Train between Ahmedabad and Danapur
In anticipation of the upcoming Holi festival, Western Railway has announced the operation of a special train between Ahmedabad and Danapur. Scheduled to run two trips, Train No. 09403 will depart from Ahmedabad at 7:20 am on March 24, reaching Danapur at 19:30 the following day. Conversely, Train No. 09404 will depart from Danapur at 22:30 on March 25, arriving in Ahmedabad at 10:15 am on the third day.
The train will halt at multiple stations en route and will offer various classes of accommodation including second AC, third AC, sleeper class, and general class coaches.
