Ahmedabad is set to witness a historic event on the 26th of February, as the city celebrates its 614th foundation day with the Bhadrakali Nagar Yatra. This grand procession will cover a 6.25 km route, passing through Ahmedabad’s heritage areas, leading to major traffic restrictions and road closures.
Know which routes will be closed to vehicular traffic
Starting at 7:30 AM from Bhadrakali Mata Temple, the yatra will proceed through the route of Teen Darwaza, Manek Chowk, Mandvi ni Pol, AMC Office, Khamasa Cross Road, Jamalpur Vegetable Market, Jagannath Temple, Gaekwad Haveli, Riverfront Mahalaxmi Temple, and Lal Darwaja. As a result, these roads will remain closed for vehicular movement until the procession concludes.
The Ahmedabad Police Commissioner has issued a traffic advisory, restricting vehicle movement along the route. Additionally, markets such as Bhadra Market, Manek Chowk, and Soni Bazaar will remain shut until the afternoon. Only 20 vehicles, including the deity’s chariot, small trucks for bhajan groups, and official vehicles, will be part of the procession.
To ease congestion, commuters are advised to use alternative routes. To ensure safety and maintain order, over 1,500 police personnel, including one JCP, two DCPs, four ACPs, and more than 20 PI-PSIs, will be deployed. Police officers will be equipped with body-worn cameras, watchtowers will have security personnel, and drones will be deployed for aerial surveillance. Commuters are encouraged to plan their routes in advance to avoid delays and disruptions.
