Ahmedabad City Police have announced an elaborate security plan to ensure a safe and incident-free New Year’s Eve. With checkpoints, targeted drives, and dedicated safety measures, the city is gearing up to manage celebrations responsibly and securely.
A week-long prohibition drive, decoy teams for women’s safety
A week-long prohibition drive from the 22nd to 31st of December has tightened scrutiny on bootleggers, with offenders under surveillance and operations to prevent the distribution of illicit liquor. Breath analysers will be used at checkpoints to catch drunk drivers.
Women’s safety remains a key focus, with decoy teams from the Mahila Crime Branch and Anti-Romeo Squads patrolling crowded areas. She Teams stationed at 47 police stations will operate across the city to deter harassment and ensure a safe environment for women.
132 checkpoints and 6000+ police personnel
To maintain order, 132 checkpoints will be set up across the city, focusing on major entry and exit points to deter drunken driving and monitor vehicular movement. Prominent areas like CG Road, SG Highway, Sindhu Bhavan Road, Vastrapur, Prahaladnagar, and Maninagar will see intensified patrolling and surveillance.
Over 6,000 police personnel, including senior officials, inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables, will be on duty. Sensitive locations will be equipped with CCTV cameras, while body cameras will assist officers in capturing live incidents. In addition, plainclothes officers will monitor activities at malls, hotels, clubs, and private events to ensure compliance with the law.
In case of emergencies, eight Quick Response Teams (QRTs), four Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), and bulletproof vehicles will be stationed at strategic locations. The State Reserve Police (SRP) will provide additional support to local law enforcement, particularly in areas such as Satellite, Maninagar, and Navrangpura.
