The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has demolished three spans of the 53-year-old Subhash Bridge, marking the first major milestone in its reconstruction project. The ageing bridge, which has served the city for more than five decades, is being replaced with a new structure.
Demolition carried out under strict safety measures
The demolition was conducted in the Sabarmati riverbed under the supervision of technical experts. Each span was dismantled and lowered in a controlled manner to ensure the safety of workers, machinery and the surrounding area.
As per reports, the contractor adhered to all prescribed safety protocols throughout the operation, and no untoward incidents were reported. To facilitate the work, the bridge was barricaded and declared a restricted zone, with public access prohibited during the demolition.
Work to continue in phases
With the first phase now complete, the remaining sections of the old bridge will be demolished over the coming days. Debris removal is already underway, paving the way for the next stage of the reconstruction project.
